Groundwork Wakefield, in partnership with the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Bretton and Newhaven units and Thornes Park Nursery, provides a range of supported services to service users with mental health and learning disability conditions. The activities take place on Groundwork’s own site at Fieldhead, Wakefield, and at Thornes Park Nursery.
Thornes Park Nursery allows service users to utilise a valuable community resource in the local Wakefield area and provides a wide range of vocational training, qualifications, work placements and experience whilst developing self-confidence and self-esteem through meaningful activities in a safe and supported environment. Activities at both sites focus around individuals completing set projects, enabling service users to explore new interests and develop vocational skills and qualifications which will contribute to them maintaining a meaningful and purposeful occupation in the community. Projects include site preparation including dry stone walling and fencing, bench restoration, horti-care, arts and crafts, tree planting, vegetable production and propagation, retail and customer service. All activities are based upon the needs of the group.
