- What a great afternoon at Thornes Park on Saturday, when the renovated tennis courts were opened. In glorious sunshine a gathering of the Friends of CHaT Parks welcomed Councillors Michael Graham, Kevin Swift and Hilary Mitchell and the Wakefield School of Tennis.After speeches by Friends Chairman Ian Deighton and Peter Wilkes, Cllr Graham officially opened the tennis courts. LTA-accredited coach Dwight Brown and Mark ran taster tennis sessions for members of the public which included mini tennis, cardio tennis and a taster Tennis for Free session. The Friends provided refreshments with lemon barley water – of course!
